ISRAEL

This book is a sound modern treat-ment of the history of Israel from the Patriarchs to the Maccabees. It presents to all students of the Bible the scholarly conclusions now widely accepted in the universities and theological colleges of the English-speaking world. The publication of this readable yet reliable history fills, the publishers believe, a long-felt gap. For further details, please see the back cover.

JOHN BRIGHT has been Cyrus H. McCormick Professor of Hebrew and the Interpretation of the Old Testa-ment at Union Theological Seminary, Richmond, Virginia, U.S.A., since 1940. Other books by Dr Bright include Early Israel in Recent History Writing (Studies in Biblical Theology).
